Other Key Considerations

Workers' Compensation Insurance
Any business with three or more employees in Cobb County must carry workers' compensation insurance with a licensed insurance company or must be self-insured. Workers' compensation insurance provides protection to employees from on-the-job accidents. The State Board of Workers' Compensation can provide claims assistance for those having workers' compensation claims.

Minimum Wages
Every business owner should obtain all regulations regarding both the Federal and State minimum wage laws. Even if your business is not covered by the Federal minimum wage law, you are still subject to the Georgia minimum wage law requirements. You should contact both State and Federal labor departments for information.

Patents and Inventions
There are various publications concerning the patent laws and inventions available at the Federal Bookstore and the Department of Commerce. In addition, the Georgia Department of Industry and Trade (see Appendix for address and phone number) has an excellent Inventors Checklist and related publications. You should contact the patent attorney before filing a patent application. Various patent attorneys are listed in the Yellow Pages. All federal patents are registered with the U.S. Department of Commerce Patent Office.
