Partners in Action

Businesses and schools come together to hold numerous events and fundraisers every year to provide for the school and promote community spirit.
See below for the creative ways that businesses and schools have partnered together.

  • Dunleith Elementary School celebrated its top readers in each grade level with a special author visit and storytelling event. Carol Aebersold, author of Elf on the Shelf, shared her recently published A Light in the Night with the school's top two Marietta Reads! Accelerated Reader (AR) point earners from each grade level. Students and adults enjoyed the author's retelling of both books. Aebersold's publishing company, CCA & B, is a Dunleith Partner in Education..

  • On April 12th, seven members of the Cobb County Bar Association participated in the "Are You Smarter Than a Sixth Grader" competition against Marietta Sixth Grade Academy (MSGA). Cobb County Bar Association and MSGA have been Partners for three years. This friendly yet fierce competition helps students prepare for CRCT exams. The Cobb Bar attorneys who participated were: Cobb Bar's Partners in Education Chair, Mazi Mazloom, Darrell Sutton, John Skelton, John Salter, Allison Salter, Marcy Millard and Schuyler Hoynes.

  • This spring, The Georgia Ballet has been working with students at Sawyer Road Elementary School and Marietta Sixth Grade Academy through their Momentum program. In this program, students took an introductory course in theatre dance. Each class focused on musicality, rhythm, quality of movement, basic dance terminology, self discipline, cooperation, self control, and the importance of practice and regular attendance. These classes provide an opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge about dance as an art-form, an opportunity some might not have otherwise. Momentum students that would like to continue their dance training are awarded a full scholarship (uniform included) to The Georgia Ballet School. In addition to Momentum, the ballet offers field trip performances to its professional performance series, in school lecture/demonstrations and workshops. All programs meet Georgia Quality Core Curriculum Standards.

  • Refuge West Church has been busy helping Hollydale Elementary School this spring. During CRCT week, Refuge West Church gave all of the teachers and staff "survival kits," which included bottled water, snacks, candy, sudoku puzzles and more. On Monday, March 28th, Refuge West Church partnered with Brian Jordan, former Atlanta Braves and Falcons player, at Hollydale Elementary's Creative Writing Night. During this event, families enjoyed dinner together and children from each grade level read their winning essays and were presented with a certificate of achievement and a copy of one of Brian Jordan's children's books. Refuge West Church was the Outstanding PIE Award winner for the South Cobb Area Council in 2010.
  • Vivid Marketing has implemented "Wacky Wednesday" at Birney Elementary School. One Wednesday each month, the principal informs a few select teachers that he/she will be receiving a break from their regular bus, carpool or lunch room duties, and Vivid Marketing employees take over that duty for the teacher on that day. Other ways that Vivid Marketing has provided support this eyar is through having employee groups visit Birney once per month to assist students with reading and math, providing treats and snacks for teachers during testing and conference weeks, and providing games, interactives, and physical support of the school's Field Day.
  • Clarkdale Elementary School has been a partner with the Stevi B's Pizza this year. Stevi B’s has partnered with Aaron’s and Blockbuster to bring in several 73” big screen televisions and games for the students to play. They held a Wii tournament in March and a Smash Brothers and Just Dance event in April. Even a tournament play-off was held to find out the overall winner of the Wii games.
  • Zeta Phi Beta Sorority/ Rho Epsilon Zeta Chapter has been supporting Mableton Elementary School through a variety of ways this year. This includes a Campus Clean Up, collecting and donating school supplies for students and staff, participating in the annual Jaguar Jingle Jog, a school fun run, with students, organizing the Candy Cane Hunt for each grade level, and organizing games and providing silent auction items for the Spring Fling.
  • Kids Club, an after school program presented by Rho Zeta Omega Chapter of alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, is focusing Park Street Elementary School students on making healthier lifestyle, environmental, and financial decisions. Held bimonthly, third through fifth grade students have taste tested and enjoyed organic foods while learning the cost and energy-conserving benefits of eating foods from local farmers. They have grown and sustained their own herb garden, measured their carbon footprint and pledged an act of green for Earth Day, and celebrated Arbor Day with a special tree dedication.
