Schools in Action
Before the start of the school year Marietta Sixth Grade Academy held a school supplies drive to equip students with the best possible tools for learning. They reached out to their partners for their assistance in gathering supplies and were able to give students backpacks, pencils, calculators and much more.
In return, the students, staff and other members of the community volunteered to help one of their Partners in Education, Mount Paran North Church of God, that had embarked on the task of hosting a supplies drive in conjunction with the Marietta Housing Authority to provide shoes, clothing, backpacks and school supplies, health screenings, and lunch to over 900 Marietta City students. Marietta Sixth Grade Academy was very excited about having an opportunity to engage the students to help its Partner in Education and building a true two-way partnership.
Austell Primary School, Ford Elementary School, Hickory Hills Elementary School, Marietta Middle School and Sanders Intermediate School and Sanders Primary School celebrated the beginning of the year with welcome back partner celebrations, partner breakfasts and partner lunches.
Ideas from last issue:
n Students create artwork and thank you notes for their partners
n Schools hold appreciation lunches for their partners
n Invite partners to school events, such as performing arts and sporting events.
n Create a DVD or slideshow to capture partner activities and student response to partners
Tell us about your partner appreciation activities and you might find them in our next e-newsletter! Contact the Cobb Chamber Education Department at 770-859-2366 or partners@cobbchamber.org with stories and pictures. Please keep in mind that businesses must be official Partners in Education through the Cobb Chamber to be recognized. If students appear in pictures, please verify that permission has been granted to release these photos.
