Softball Game
Come find out who will be this year’s champion at the 36th annual Elected Officials vs. Chamber Officials Softball Game on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Tolleson Park in Smyrna. The game starts at 5 p.m.
Watch our elected officials battle the Cobb Chamber board members. Chairman Rob Garcia of Bank of North Georgia will be the returning coach for the Chamber Chargers team.
All Chamber members are invited to be spectators and cheer on the Chamber team. Williamson Brothers BBQ will provide a barbecue dinner after the game for players and spectators. To R.S.V.P. to the game or the dinner, contact Slade Gulledge at sgulledge@cobbchamber.org.
Last year, the Gorillas defeated the Chargers and the Chamber team is looking to take over the six foot tall trophy that the winner receives.
The game series was the idea of then State Representative Ken Nix and the Chamber Executive Director Phil Sanders back in 1975. Since that time there has been a longstanding rivalry between the Chamber Chargers and the Government Gorillas.
If you are interested in being a Chamber Charger, please contact Slade Gulledge at 770-859-2320 or sgulledge@cobbchamber.org. Elected/Appointed Officials wishing to participate in the game should contact Gorilla Coach Chief Judge Ken Nix, Cobb Superior Court.
The 36th Annual Softball Game is sponsored by members of the "Ole West Fulton Gang." A few of the "Ole West Fulton Owls" from West Fulton High School settled in Cobb and have been involved in the business and local communities for years, sponsoring this year's softball game. Members include Russell Alexander; Geneva Snell Barnes; Ray B. Gary, Sr.; Ray Gary, Jr.; Kenneth O. Nix, Sr.; Steve Phillips and L.A. Phillips; Tom M. Phillips and James Wallace.
